Chandigarh Airport
Chandigarh Airport, Mohali
Spread over an area of 53,400 sq. m and located in Chandigarh,
the new Integrated Passenger Terminal Building of Chandigarh Airport,
complements the character of the city.
It is the first building to achieve
100% operational solar energy. If has also achieved 4 star GRIHA rating.
Generally, buildings across the world cannot dazzle without the illumination of
artificial lighting.
But this terminal is one of its kind as it does not
require artifical lighting during daytime. The terminal is adorned by a
transparent glass and steel facade, showcasing a twin-level design with arrival
at lowe level and departure +10m level.
Common front unites the building. The structural arrangement provides a large
coulmn free space over the length of the building as well as gives a distinct
rising profile to the ceiling line. The terminal uses circular RCC coulmns. Roof
structure is constructed from a hybrid system of high strength steel trusses and
space frames achieving larger clear span. The terminal handles both domestic as
well as international flights.
